Positive Ticketing

The Police Positive Ticket Project (PT) was started in Richmond British Columbia (BC) in 2003.  The aim of the program is to improve the relationship between youth and police by creating a positive interaction.

PTs are business card size with positive messages printed on them, combined with gift vouchers donated by local businesses. The value of the project lies in positive communication created between the officer and the youth. The PT program helps to initiate an open, honest and positive conversation allowing police and the youth to make a constructive and lasting connection.  The program also provides a space for community (business) involvement in the youth justice system and positive interactions between youth and businesses.

The PT program has been positively received in diverse communities in a wide range of places such as Toronto (Ontario), Grand Prairie (Alberta), Calgary (Alberta), Alberta (Alberta), St John’s (Newfoundland and Labrador), Sunshine Coast (BC), Richmond (BC) and Wetaskiwin (Alberta).
